COVID-19 and Safeguarding
We are currently living in challenging and unprecedented times and we would like to remind everyone of the importance of continuing to be vigilant about safeguarding. In addition to day to day safeguarding, Covid-19 has the potential to increase the risk to our most vulnerable citizens – such as self-neglect, domestic abuse, fraud/scams.
As you will be aware, this is a pivotal moment in the COVID-19 pandemic with rising cases nationally. In the borough we have seen our own increase in cases and there is no room for complacency.
To protect yourself and others, you must:
- wash your hands regularly and for at least 20 seconds
- wear a face covering over your nose and mouth in enclosed spaces
- try to stay at least 2 metres (3 steps) away from anyone you do not live with (or anyone not in your support bubble)
- if you feel unwell, get a test immediately
- if you have travelled abroad to a country that’s not on the exemption list, you need to self-isolate for 14 days. Check travel advice here.
Safeguarding should, of course, remain a high priority and if you have any concerns about a child please call the SPA/MASH on 01628 683150 or email MASH@achievingforchildren.org.uk. If your concern is about an adult please call the Advice and Information Team 01628 683744. Outside of working hours contact the Emergency Duty Service for both adults and children on 01344 786543.
In an emergency, call the Police on 999
If you think there has been a crime but is not an emergency, you can call the Police on 101

Dealing with Domestic Abuse during coronavirus (COVID-19)
Ensuring the safety of individuals who may be dealing with domestic abuse during the current pandemic can be very challenging. Our domestic abuse co-ordinator has been working with the other Berkshire Local Authority DA leads and partners to put together information for professionals/volunteers who may have the opportunity to speak directly with a victim of domestic abuse during COVID-19.
