Exploited to Exploiter: CCE and the Transition to Adulthood
The Alliance for Youth Justice has published the third in its series of policy briefings on young people and the criminal justice system. This report focuses on victims of child criminal exploitation (CCE) as they turn 18 and transition into adulthood, highlighting the sharp drop in protection and recognition as victims, and the increased risk of criminalisation influenced by race, class and gender.
The report calls for a developmentally informed, safeguarding-led response that prevents the unjust criminalisation of exploited young adults. This is particularly timely given TASP’s collaboration with Durham University and VKPP, funded by the Youth Endowment Fund, examining how partnerships respond to extra-familial harm and CCE.
